20 years later, two documentaries take sobering looks at Hurricane Katrina. Ryan Coogler (Black Panther Director) serves as Executive Producer for the 5 part National Geographic series ‘Hurricane Katrina, Race Against Time’, while Spike Lee serves as Executive Producer and Director for the 3 part Netflix series ‘Katrina, Come Hell and High Water. I watched the Nat Geo series first. It gives a complete, gut wrenching account of events prior to, during and after Katrina devastated New Orleans. The Netflix series encapsulates the storm and immediate aftermath in the first two episodes, while expanding on the long term effects for the people in episode 3. Both series are eye-opening, shocking and shine a bright light on an ugly reality that many Americans may not be aware of. If you’re looking for something worthwhile to binge… You’ve found it.
